Communicating with family and friends is easy with REACH. REACH speaks as you type or after you're finished typing. You can highlight text virtually anywhere on the screen and have it read back to you. What's more, you can use REACH's new Smart Speech add-on to use the ultimate in augmentative communication. What Is Dwell?

If you're already familiar with the concept of dwell you can skip this section.

If you can point a mouse cursor on the screen but have trouble clicking, then REACH can click, double-click, or drag for you. This feature is called Dwell. REACH watches your mouse movements, waits for a certain adjustable period of time, and then clicks for you. Read on to see why REACH's dwell is very cool.

Dwell Time

First, you set up the dwell time to suit your specific needs. For dwell time, REACH uses a 'ready', 'set', 'go' approach. You can control amount of time delay you want for each of the three stages.

Dwell Status

REACH's Dwell allows you to receive cues about its current status. For example, if you select the "Street Light" dwell icon, the street light will then change from red to yellow, and then to green to indicate when a click is going to occur. You won't see the dwell icon until your mouse movements have steadied enough to indicate you are close to a target.

In addition, you also will receive specialized cueing inside the REACH keyboard with colored borders surrounding the keys.

Dwell Pause

Other dwell programs tend to just click and click over and over again while you're not doing anything. This can be very annoying. REACH solves this dilemma by providing two pause options. The first pause option is called a "passive" pause. After you click, dwell will not start again until you've moved your mouse a little.

Sometimes, however, that isn't enough. You might want to turn dwell of for a little while but you don't want to have to go into the REACH settings to turn it off and on again. Besides, how could you? If you turn off dwell in settings how would you click to open settings up again? To help with this, REACH's Dwell provides "active" pause. When you activate dwell, a little window tab appears on the right side of the screen. When you get close to the tab, it will slide out, and you then can dwell on the tab for a period of time to pause Dwell (the "pause" tab changes color too to indicate you have paused the dwell switch).

To start dwell up again, simply go back and aim at the dwell tab. When it slides out again, dwell on it to start the dwell switch back up. Dwell Pause is a great feature to make dwell a more viable solution for those who have trouble clicking.

Clicking, Dragging, Etc.

If you want to get more daring and sophisticated, you might want to double click, drag, right click, etc. With REACH Dwell it's no problem - simply dwell on the "Mouse Control" buttons on the REACH button bar and then the next time you dwell the mouse function you selected will be performed.
